Hello, I'm experiencing a problem with my CD-ROM drive.
When I put any kind of CD in the D:\ drive, I get an error
massage saying "D:\ is not accessible. The device is not
ready." I tried to do something about it, but it always
requires the Windows 98SE CD. I DO have it, but the CD
drive doesn't work, so I can't fix this problem! any help
would be appreciated!!!

Check for loose cables. Right click "My Computer" and select
"Properties." In the device manager, look at what it says for
the CD drive. If that's not enlightening, try deleting the
entry for the CD drive and rebooting. If it still doesn't
work (but once did) it's probably due for replacement. Happily,
CD-ROM drives are dirt cheap now.

I also have this problem. Did you get a response?
Can anyone help me out with this ?
I am a dumb blonde running windows 98.
In addition to the problem stated below - when I try and
run a Virus scan and scandisk/disk defragmentor - a window
states - 'Drive locked by a disc utility1.
