Defrag fails
"Windows cannot defragment this drive because it contains
errors that must first be repaired. Click Help, carry
out the instructions for repairing the errors, and then
try defragmenting the drive again." (DEFRAG004)
I follow instructions on repairing the error - scandisk -
which appears to complete OK.
Then I re-run defrag - but get the same problem.
Any ideas?

Hi JR,
The DEFRAG004 error indicates the drive contains an error.
Delete the contents of the C:\Windows\Temp folder and the
Temporary Internet Files. Then empty the Recycle Bin.
Performing a thorough scan of the disk from DOS may fix the error.
To do so Boot the system with a Windows Startup Disk. At the A:\ prompt type
scandisk C:
then press enter. Let Scandisk perform the standard scan and a surface scan.
When the surface
scan is finished remove the Startup disk and reboot the system. Boot to
Windows and retry Defrag.
Deleting the contents of the Applog file has known to have worked. Once.

Turn off any virus scanning programs.
