MY HD is damaged and I need to replace it in a Win 98 machine. Does anyone know what hard drives I can buy that would replace this hard drive and be compatible with what is in the computer already? I can go for more than the original 8.4G , but compatibility is the question. I'll stay small if need be.

Any IDE hard drive should work okay (Western Digital, Maxtor, Seagate,
etc.).
The potential problem would be with the size of the drive, as many
motherboards from the 1998/99 era did not support hard drives larger
than 32 gb. And it is often difficult to find a hard drive smaller
than 40 gb in the stores these days.
So check the documentation for your computer's motherboard and see
what size hard drives it is designed to support. Also check with the
motherboard manufacturer's web site for any BIOS updates and/or tech
support documents that might affect the ability of the motherboard to
work with larger hard drives.
Good luck

You can install almost any IDE HD. Depending on the age of the motherboard
and the bios, you may have problems with large harddrives. Check the web
site of the motherboard manufacturer.
Most recent motherboards will handle drives up to 120GB. Your system Win98
can handle drives up to 120 GB (127.5 actually).
