My screen will suddenly go black and the keyboard will
also stop working, Ctrl-Alt-Delete will not restart
computer when this happens. I must turn the computer off,
then restart it. It will work again for a while then this
happens again. I monitored the CPU temperature, it never
goes above 109 F (Intel Celeron). The voltage hovers
between 11.94 & 12 volts. I have had this computer for two
years. This problem started a few months ago. I was
running WINXP at that time, thought I had hard drive
problems, reformatted and installed WIN98. Still having
this problem. No new hardware has been added recently.

Sounds like your power supply unit is going bad.

sounds like you know what you're doing - so I hesitate to
suggest this - but when my users complain about this sort
of problem it is most often the case that the computer has
gone into "suspend mode" IBM computers - power light
blinks - they just have to press on button once to
restore .... a power setting might have been changed thus
accounting for the onset history ...
... I have never seen a power supply fail in this way but
that's also a possibility
