An unknown "X" is on my desktop. It just showed up out of
no where. It's red with a square box around it. When I
click on it, the box turns grey and the "x" stays red in
the center of the box. I run spy-ware and Norton Anti-
virus and I don't see anything noted. What should I do to
remove this "x" from my desktop. Right click/delete won't
work either.
It may be a NameSpace item.
If so remove it from the Registry using Regedit.
It should appear under the key: (along with the Recycle Bin, Inbox
etc.)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace
It is good practice to export any key before deletion in case of
error.
Don't delete this one. It is the Recycle Bin.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
