Display Properties hang

I've researched this problem and there seems to be little information
for it.I am running  Win98 SE and suddenly when I try to change the
color scheme in Display Properties, it hangs. Plus! also hangs when I
try to change themes. The graphic will change but not the windows
colors. Both trys shows a blinking curser and Ctrl Alt Delete shows the
programs are not responding.

I did have 2 virus that may have changed some registry entries.  I
don't remember what they were but my computer was cleared with Norton
Antivirus.  My display and video drivers are up to date.  Any ideas
would be apreciated.

Thanks,

Renee

I would boot into safe mode and open the control panel, system, device
manager.  Remove all entries from display adapter and reboot.  Then install
the display adapter driver and see if that helps.

Thank you for answering, Ron.  I'm afraid that didn't help.  I really
feel that some kind of registry key has changed.  I also tried
extracting Desk.cpl.  That didn't help either.

 Since you use NAV:
Open NAV.
Click Reports > Quarantined items.
If anything is in quarantine, right click the item and select Properties.
Check Symantec's site for details of the named item.

Hi Brian,

I wish I could do that but I've had a very difficult time with the
Systemworks installation.  Having had to instal and re-install 4 times
so that information was lost to me.  It's a shame because I've used
Symantec products since the DOS days that it was PcTools.  They are
just not as reliable as they use to be.  I'm still having problems
getting all the scans to work properly in WinDoctor but I'm not going
through all that again anytime soon.

BTW this problem with my display/appearance started before I installed
systemworks so that's not the problem either but I thank you for your
reply.

Regards,

Renee

comes up again for anyone you'll have a good answer now.

I want to add for research purposes for anyone that may need it that I
also did a scan at Trenco and found these known grayware/spywares:
ADW_SE.123481
ADW_SE.12378
ADW_SE.12377
ADW_SE.12375
ADW_SE.12373
Now I will do another scan to see if they are in fact removed. Hope
this helps.
