I have a Twinhead notebook pre-installed with Win98.
The model is PowerSlim 600.
I want to reformat the hard drive and re-install Win98 so
I created a bootable boot floppy disk.
I successfully used the boot disk to reformat the hard
drive but ran ito a problem as I tried to install Win98.
On the first step (Preparing to run Win98 setup), there
was a Setup Detection Notice (Message SU0409) stating
that setup was unable to update my system files.
It said it may be due to virus detection software built
into my PC.
How could there be a virus software on my PC when the
hard disk has been reformatted?
It then says that I should "run the configuration program
for my PC". What does this mean?
It also says "To disable the virus software on my PC, I
should remove the lines that start the program from my
Autoexec.bat or Config.sys files
I have never used MS-Dos before and I desperately need to
re-install Win98 on my laptop.
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME.
Thank you.
Kay.

This is not MS-DOS or Windows, but BIOS. When you first power the machine
on there should be a message about how to access BIOS setup, or perhaps you
will need to consult your system manual. Usually it's a key such as F1 or
DEL, but it could be anything, and it even could be that you need to boot
with a special startup utility disk. Your machine documentation should have
the details. When you access BIOS setup you need to disable BIOS boot
sector anti-virus protection. The exact procedure varies between machines,
but the terminology should be something like that. Re-enable it after the
install is complete.
