Hi, i just sold my seagate 60gb drive to a mate, and he is
having problems getting 98 to see it, actually, it doesnt
see it at all.
firstly, there are no partitions on it,
it is formatted using NTFS.
so i suppose both these could be the problem, the
motherboard recognises the HDD no probs, but he cannot get
acsess to it in windows.
PS, i should mention, there was a bit of data on the HDD
that i was also giving to my friend.
Any ideas as to how my friend can get windows to see the
drive ?

A partition must exist for high-level formatting to occur. You stated no
partitions exist. So, don't understand why interjection of NTFS formatting
into your post. Then there's the mysterious "bit of data on the HDD". If
there's no partitions, the only thing left is the MBR area of the HDD to
write data that is accessible. How about some accurate info?

Well, excuse me for not being a guru, unlike yourself.
Of course it was patitioned, but not partitioned into
smaller drives.
when i bought the drive, i whacked it in my(windows 2000)
machine for some extra space.
Now, when i sold this drive, i deleted all the stuff i had
on it, then put about 900mb of pics and stuff for him, but
i didnt realise he was using 98, if i knew that, i would
of formatted the drive first(in FAT32) and partitioned it
into 2 or 3 smaller drives, then put the data on for him.
So, the question remains, is there anyway for him to
acsess the data using his 98, the way it is now?

Yes, but I managed to illicit the needed information so Ron could make the
proper response. Your welcome.

Zap or Wipe freeware will remove all partition information so you can
start over fresh with FDisk. Download here:
http://www.microstorage.com/Harddriveinfo.htm#Date%20Life%20Guard
Once done, use fdisk to create fat 32 partitions--it is best to keep the
partitions under 8 gb to achieve maximum filing efficiency. One the
partitions are created, they must be formatted. For more info:

The hard drive is perfectly good to him provided he removes the NTFS
partition and replaces it with one that W98 can understand.
