Windows 98 will not boot-up. I have a boot up disk that i
made before this happened, when i insert it and run it
with or with out cd rom support this message comes
up "windows 98 has detected that Drive C does not contain
a valid FAT or FAT32 partition. After 2 hours on the
phone w/ microsoft i got absolutely nothing accomplished,
i accomplished more using the help file in dos. I cannot
get the computer to do anything, not even run in safe
mode. Could this be a virus??? PLEASE someone help me - or
like i said it's going out the window!
It could have been a virus or it might have been someone using some disk
utility which messed up the drive. It could also be that the drive has
developed a defect.
My suggestion would be to repartition the drive, format the drive and
reinstall.

Ron - am i gonna lose everything if i do this -
considering i can't get into the system to backup
anything. plus will this work considering when i do FDISK
in the dos commands it says there are no fixed disks
present. plus - if this is a virus i have on my computer,
if i purchased anti-virus software would i be able to run
it?

I think what you should do is determine the brand of hard drive, go to
the maker's web site, download diagnostic software and check the health
of your hard drive.

We are having the same problem and cannot reformat the
hard drive. We can not run fdisk. Do you have any ideas?

I suggest you go back to MS DOS 6.2 Boot disk and do your
fdisk then after formatting C: drive install your windows
3.2 first if it runs OK and the CD-rom driver is installed
then try installing your windows 98 OS. Hope fully some
one else may have a better option. Good Luck
