I need a simple answer, just learning as I go.  I have w98
and commands are failing and not working as they should,
it was recomended by my internet provider help desk that I
reinstall w98, but after much frustration I found out that
I am unable to do so, due to FAT 32 being installed.  Now
after searching through help it looks as if I will have to
repartition and reformat the fat32 drive.  And I have no
idea on how to do this.  help please!!!

Why not post what commands are failing.

you have to get a windows boot disk. start the boot disk
up then type in ms-dos "FDISK" then delete the primary dos
partition and any other partitions. then create a new dos
partition. then retart the computer. then boot the disk
again and format the drive. then install windows 98 again.

If your system is already running with a FAT32 partition then you do not
have to remove it in order to re-install your system.  You might be trying
to install Windows 95 so that you can upgrade to Windows 98.  Instead, just
install Windows 98.  If you are asked, insert your Windows 95 CD to prove
you are eligible to install the upgrade version.

Re-installing is a major job for what might be a small problem.  If you ask
here about specific issues you might be able to fix them one by one.

Before reinstalling windows, consider the following:
85% of ISP "helpdesk" personnel get all their
troubleshooting knowledge from a list of "if this is the
problem, this is the solution".  The final "solution" at
the end of the list is reinstall windows.

I learned a long time ago that reinstalling windows is
almost never a real requirement (AFTER 95 that is).  :)

Depending on what commands you're talking about, it could
just be a registry problem, or another program causing the
headaches. (I've had a lot of problems with McAfee's
Firewall for example).

Hope this helps.
