Hi,
I installed Linux (Mandrake 8.0) using the free space in my windows
partition. The problem is that I cannot see a drive unit assigned to
the Linux partition from Windows. Windows thinks that all the space in
the hard drive is available to it, but this is not true.
If I see the partitions using the msdos utility fdisk, then I can see
that there are two partitions: one for Windows and another one for
Linux (as expected), but there is no drive unit (e.g., d: or e:)
assigned to the Linux partition. I think the reason is that it has
been created as an extended partition.
If I use scandisk, I find some errors, but I'm afraid of correcting
them because they could be on the Linux partition...
Now, when I start windows, I get an error (sector cannot be found). If
I run scandisk, it seems that there is some problem with the last
cluster on the drive. But I'm afraid of letting scandisk to solve any
problem. I wouldn't like to lose my data!! What can I do? Also, I get
an error asking me to run "scanreg", but I run it without any effect
(it seems not to respond and abort).
Please, any advice or hint would be greatly appreciated.
Mandrake 8.0 -> 7 GB
Windows 98 -> 12 GB (it appears to be 19 GB)
Hard drive with 19 GB
Thanks in advance

Windows cannot "see" Linux partitions
but you can get a utility called explore2fs
and view the linux partitions and copy data from it to your windows
installtion
