My System Info shows 39193 MB (FAT32) available on Drive D.
In "Drive Space" it shows only 4 GB capacity and 2 GB have
been used. Why do I get this difference in readings about
the 40 GB hard drive?

Drivespace is a disk compression utility and tells you nothing useful about
the used or free space on your disk. System info, or the properties of the
drive in My Computer, provide the information you need.
