hi all my friend gave me his computer a while back and
when i eventually got round to setting it up it had no
sound. It is'nt the speakers its the actual computer. Has
any one got any iders please??

you need to determine what type of sound card is in the machine
...then install the proper drivers
you can probably get the drivers from www.driverguide.com
but you might have to actually open up the machine
to see what kind of soundcard is in it

Ask your friend(the one who gave the PC to you) if he has any of the documentation/driver disks that came with the machine or soundcard. If not then you will have to find out for yourself what type of card it is by opening the case and looking at the card for the manufacturer's name and the card's model name and/or number. Then go to the manufacturers website and download and install the proper drivers. If you open the machine to find no independant sound card and the speaker ports are directly on the motherboard, that means you have onboard audio and must find out the motherboard's manufacturer and model name/number. Then go to the motherboards site and look for sound drivers for that type of motherboard. I hope this helps.
