scan disk and defraging

i get a not enough memory when i try to defrag or scan
disk need help i need to do this soon, i just got a new
hard drive maybe this could be the problem i just don't
know enough about computers to know what to do or what to
look for HELP

If it says not enough memory i would sugest it is a ram
thing and not a hard drive thing.

How much ram do you have?

Try pressing ctrl+alt+del to get the task manager up.  
One by one "end task" everything in the list other
than "Explorer" and then try it again.  That gets rid of
any programs from running in the background which will
free up some ram and stop the hard drive from being
accessed.

Cluster wize too small for the partitiomn!?

The error you are seeing is probably caused by non-standard partitioning for
the new hard drive. Open a DOS windows and do CHKDSK. Note the total number
of allocation units on disk and respond here with the figure.

Your Hard Drive is too large for Windows 98 to run ScanDisk or Defrag
because the cluster size of drives 32GB or larger is 32kb. This is a result
of the default used by the FAT32 file storage system.
