I need help! When booting my computer I get
an "operating system not found" error. Then I used my
boot disk and an error message, "does not contain a valid
FAT or FAT32 partition" displays. Also, "diagnostic tool
loaded to drive c". There is a huge chunk of my hard
drive missing as the c drive shows 1,486,848 bytes free
(my hard drive is 6G). How can I restore my hard drive
without losing all my files? Is it possible to recover
data at this point? What are the possible causes?
I would appreciate any assistance.
Thank you.

You have suffered a hard drive failure of some sort. The C drive that you
are seeing when you boot to floppy is a RAM drive installed by the boot
process - the fact that it is labelled C tells you that the boot process did
not see any hard drive installed in this machine. Check the BIOS settings
for the hard drive and check the drive cables (including power). Visit the
www page of the hard disk drive manufacturer and download and run some hard
disk drive diagnostics - that will help you to identify the cause of the
problem.
