does 98se recognize ntsf. I have a new hard drive to
install, and I need to format it as ntsf.

If that's the case, I would suggest upgrading to WinXP or Win2000.

A possible work around would be to create two partitions, C:\ (fat32) to
install Win98 on and D:\ (ntfs) to store the large files on. Install
Sysinternals
Freeware - Utilities for WindNT and Win2000 - NTFS for Win98:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/ntfswin98.shtml so that Win98
can see the D:\ partition and it's files. Now the question arises, will the
applications you are using to work with these large file cooperate.

Note that even when you can access files larger than 4Gb (for isntance,
across a network) most Windows 9x applications will fail when attempting to
read any data beyonf 4Gb in these files.
