The computer locked.  When restarting it, the message came
up, "Invalid boot diskette. Insert BOOT diskette in A."
When I put in the Windows 98 System Disk, it then
says "Windows 98 has detected that drive C does not
contain a valid FAT or FAT32 partition.  There are several
causes for this.  Then it says to creat a valid FAT or
FAT32 partition, to run FDISK from MS-DOS command prompt,
or that there may be a virus.  I ran a virus check with my
Norton antivirus 2004 disk and it was clear.
What can I do?

You have suffered a hard disk drive failure of some sort. It might be as
simple as a loose connection or some corrupted boot information, or it may
be a complete hard disk drive failure. You could start by checking the
simple things (is the drive spinning, are the cables connected properly) and
then get some hard disk drive diagnostics from the www site of the disk
drive manufacturer to help pinpoint the problem.
