What exactly is the message you get when the computer starts, and what
exactly is the disk that you are inserting?

the disk and there must be more than 4 files, as mine had

XP install CDs must be booted from, not a floppy diskette.
If you are unable to boot from CD, there is a KB article on how to make a
set of bootable CDs for XP installation. Go to an XP newsgroup for this
information.
