Had a power surge couple of weeks ago and the only way now
I can start computer is with emerg. bootable disk and
win98 disk.
It goes immediately to select hard drive or CD rom..I
choose the hard drive and then goes to BIOS initializing
and hold control key down for options...and then I have to
choose boot from a or c...I choose a and then with a few
clicks I can get it booted.
If I fail to hold CTRL key then it goes to initializing
start up and just stays there.
Any suggestions???
Many thanks. :)

When you boot off the A drive and 'a few clicks' does this get Windows up
and running?  Does it run OK and have you run Scandisk to confirm that the
hard drive is functioning properly?

It does get windows running. I have run scan disk and all
is fine with that. It is just that I have never had to
start windows this way from the A drive.

It seems the disk is running OK, but you have lost something associated with
the boot process.

When you start from the floppy and get to the A: prompt, do
   SYS C:
and then try booting without the floppy.

Thanks so much. Guess the unexpected power surge messed
something up.
