First, pull the old drive and leave it out until things are squared away.
Make sure the jumper pin setting is correct on the new drive. Watch the
boot screen and click the key indicated to enter setup (the BIOS). Make
sure the new drive is detected in the BIOS. Then run fdisk again.

I have tried all that and BIOS never gives any message other than primary
drive not found. The drive is now on it's way back.
My MB maker confirmed that the board and BIOS accept 160GB drives.

Even though retail hard drives cost more locally, such is the reason I buy
locally.
