I want to convert from FAT32 before I upgrade to XP from WIN98 SE.  When I
try to type a "convert" entry on the command line, I get an error (Bad
command or file name).  Have tried the following:

convert /?
convert c:/fs:ntfs /v
convert c: /fs:ntfs /v

Can anyone help?

Win 98 does not know anything about NTFS.

Why do you think you have to convert first ?

Have you run the XP Advisor/compatibility tool to check your system for
compatibility ?

The "convert" utility only exists on WinXP, not in Win98. Win98 knows
nothing about NTFS, so if you were able to convert the partition it
would disappear from Win98. Since (I assume) Win98 resides there, your
computer would immediately crash, and you would not be able to boot
again.

Upgrade to XP first, then convert the partition.
