I've had so many problems since upgrading to IE6. My
computer sucks up memory like crazy, ONLY when I'm on the
net. So much in fact, I finally freeze up and have to
reboot. Trying to surf the net has become an all day
job. Everything is so slow. I've downloaded all the
patches, nothing helps. I sure miss IE 5.5. Microsoft
has NO help in any of their support pages, I've been
searching for months. Their knowledge base has no help.
The answer I received from a Microsoft certified friend of
mine explained that IE6 was programed to work with Win2000
and up. This is what is causing all the problems with
Win98. It has something to do with the way the OS deals
with memory and certain settings that Win98 doesn't have.
As much as I hate to do it, I'm being forced by Mircrosoft
programmers to reformat my hard drive, reinstalling
Win98SE and NOT upgrade the Internet Explorer. Thank you
Microsoft.

Kathy,
This may not solve everything for you but before you go the whole reformat
route,- might not be necessary anyway. Try this to return to Ver.5.5 .
Control panel>add/remove programs>select IE6 with SP-1>add/remove button.
Then when the dialog box appears>restore to previous version. If you are
running W98se I have found IE6 SP-1 to run quite well with my system. But
you did state W98 so I guess that is what you have, still it *should* work
fine anyway. You may also try a repair of IE6, same dialog Box. Once done I
hope you will get the result you desire.
