Hello Charles,
Tr_y the following: Open Internet Explorer (m_ine is v.
5.0) and go: Tools/Internet Options.../Connections and
change the setting_ to "Never dial a connection"
(from "Always dial my default connection")/OK.
Set as suggested this allows you to decide when to connect
to the Internet.
If that doesn't help, then you might look at whether you
could have a virus or "browser hijacker" on your system.

Gabriele,
It is a bad idea to just set a computer to 'never dial'. All that does is
treat the symptom without doing anything about the cause.
