There are three choices to use:1. Desktop Computer (it was
set here and that's all it is really)2. Mobile or docking
System, 3. Network Server (this is the one I just switched
to).
Can anyone tell me what this setting will do? I am at my
wits end with my computer disconnecting from the internet-
Over and Over again . It works fine if I "restart" it
again and hold the connection for a good while, but will
need to be restarted again if I open more than one program.
I have dial-up internet (56k). Windows 98se, HP Pavillion
model 8670 - 128K.
I am wondering if this change in setting from desktop
computer to network server will help me stay on-line?
Thanks.

Have you tried this?

To disable inactivity time-out follow these steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click on "Tools" in Internet Explorer.

3. Click on "Internet Options" in the menu that appears.

4. Click on the "Connections" tab

5. Click on Settings

6. In the Dial-up Settings group (near bottom), click on "Advanced".

7. Ensure that "Disconnect if idle for..." is unchecked

8. Ensure that "Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed" is
unchecked.

>Thanks Robert--I did what you said and both boxes were
already unchecked. So that may not be the problem. I don't
mind restarting the computer, but I'm worried that this
will wear it out sooner. It's only 3 years old (I know
outdated--but can't afford a new one. I have room to add
memory. Would that help solve the problem? I can't do it
myself but would take it to some computer store that does
this. Again thanks.
