Frank,
Thanks for your reply! I did try to upgrade from 98first
edition to 98SE using a full SE... a message came up
saying it couldn't be done due to the wrong set-up files
in the full edition. The version I have is the one that
comes with new computers.
I was originally running 95 on it..it is part of a 3
computer home network, it is a client computer, they are
all on a router and a cable modem. The host is running
98SE and the other is running Pro2000. The network was
happy and playing well together...no problems. I decided
to upgrade the 95 to 98 because 95 won't run a current
Norton. So I upgraded but didn't realize I would be
better off with the SE version...I used a first edition 95
to 98 upgrade CD. As a result, the computer will not go
online. The network is still intact..all 3 computers can
see each other...I just can't go online with it.
The first edition of 98 doesn't have the internet
connection sharing utility, but I would think it can
still do it...the settings are correct, there is nothing
amiss that I can see. In talking around about this
problem, I'm hearing that the fix is to upgrade again to
98SE..evidently the original 98 has a reputation for this?
Thus my frustrated previous post! Thanks for any input
you might share...the computer just isn't worth anymore
financial output, and yet is still a nice little system
for my kids.

Ah...The version that comes with new computers can't be used for an upgrade.
I saw your other thread after my post here. Lets stick to that thread.
