Just in the last three weeks, every time during McAfee
Virus Scan auto update, my computer just shuts off with no
warning, no error messages, no reboot.  When I reboot, it
runs scandisk, I check to see if my virus protection is
current, and it is.  Any ideas?

If it were me, I'd dump McAfee and change to a less invasive product such as
Etrust or even one of the free AV programs.

Deb,

I started experiencing the same problem...also about three
weeks ago.  I attributed it to a complete cleaning of my
hard drive, re-installation of Windows 98SE, and re-
installation of all other programs including VirusScan 9.
I recently chatted with McAfee re:  the problem.  Their
advice was to clear temp and temp internet files.  I did,
but the problem you cite returned today.

It appears that a recent McAfee update (version 9?) isn't
working with Windows 98.

Are others experiencing this problem?
