I have a computer with three operating systems installed (XP Pro, 2K Pro,
and Win98 SE). I have no problems connecting to and surfing the internet with
2K and XP but when I am in 98 SE I can connect immediately after boot up and
maybe manage a few pages but then it will spontaneously disconnect and the
only way I can connect  again is to reboot. I use a cable modem and I don't
believe it's a firewall issue as I have turned it off and it still happens.
I've used different browsers and it continues to happen. Any helpful
suggestions are welcome.

Hm, you say you have a cable modem; do you have a simple NIC installed?
