Following installing an SMC USB/ethernet adapter and the assocaited software,
every time I try and open explorer or outlook or outlook express (the latter
when already connected to the internet) I get a page fault in module
<unknown>. I have stopped trying to connect by broadband and have gone back
to dial up, as I could not connect due to the above problems. I still get the
above problems when connected. I have run virus scans (Norton antivirus) and
malware software - all to no avail. SMC suggest installing the OS agian! -
it's Windows 98 SE.

Any suggestions?

It also crashes one of the Norton programs on every boot ?Cpapp.exe.

Have you tried reinstalling Windows? That is often a quick and dirty fix
that works.  Also, have you tried uninstalling the problem software? Or
checking for updates for same on the SMC web site?
