I am helping a friend to check his emails when away from home. He will
use an old PC running Win98SE to access his ISP.  We needed a dial up
account from a stable supplier so we tried to install an internet
connection from a Tiscali CD.  The CD found the file missing and
terminated the operation. I understand that it isn't even a WIN98
file, but I should like to know if I go for a re-install will I lose
the application software that was already on the HD?

What a bummer!

It looks as though the Tiscali CD has done a little damage.  On boot
up it now says that the file RASAPI32.DLL is missing.  So I can't run
the internet connection wizard.

I need to know more than ever what will be the result of running the
Win 98 SE install CD.  Will it destroy what I've got?

Hi Colin,

Generally speaking, running the CD won't cause problems, but when it comes
to this it may not fix it either.

LSPFix may get things going for you:
