Hello,
i've set up an internet connection via DSL. But I couldn't connect to
all the servers.

Ok is: www.gmx.net, www.lycos.de
Not ok is: www.ebay.de

DNS resolution is working. But i.e. if I ping the Domain www.ebay.de ping sais:
PING hp-intl-de.ebay.com (66.135.208.93): 56 data bytes

But all packets got lost.

Win98SE, ZoneAlarm installed and working.

Another example is: www.lycos.de is working. But if i wanna login
nothing happens at secure.mail.lycos.de

A second PC with a newer System, the same DSL connection and
authorization (single DSL-Modem connection) is working fine. The
webpages open as quick as i expect on the Win98 System.

I don't get the clue. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks a lot

Ignore the ping failure. That is common nowadays - any server with basic
security options enabled with drop any pings automatically.

Review the links below for advice (I have no idea what 'couldn't connect'
means, precisely):

thank you all. the host file i think i could exclude. the problem is
new to the computer since the inet-connection is made with DSL instead
of the analog modem.

sandi, i'll give your advice a try as soon as i have my hands on that
particular computer. it's a question of days i think.

bfn and thanks again
