Gary, I would love to take your advice, but I just had a computer tech clean
out my computer last week; and install AVG for viruses; ever since he did
this, the problem has occurred. I have a call back into him to fix the
problem! I thought there was something with Windows 98 specifically that
caused this; I thought I remembered changing some setting once before?
Maybe I'm wrong. Jill

There is nothing I know of in Win98 settings that would force you to reboot
before reconnecting. Auto-disconnect there is galore, in the DUN and modem
settings, but nothing that would prevent you from immediately reconnecting.
That's why I suspect malware. If the tech only "cleaned up" and did not
perform a clean reinstall of your system, then I respectfully suggest that
something was missed. Honestly, with my own customers that have heavily
infested systems I always recommend a clean reinstall. A bit more expensive
maybe/maybe not, but with guaranteed results.
