I'd like to find a USB wireless network adapter that works reliably

In my experience, it's hard to find a wireless network adapter of any
type that works reliably with 98SE. I recommend using a wireless
gaming adapter instead. It connects to the computer (or other device)
via a wired Ethernet connection, doesn't require a driver program, and
works with all versions of Windows. Here are some examples:
