For some reason, my internet explorer is not working when I click on the
icon on my desktop.  It will work when I sign onto AOL but to just get onto
the internet, it won't open and it freezes up.  I can't even shut down
through the "start" menu.  I have to actually push the button that turns the
computer on and off.  Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what I
can do to fix it?  I connect to the internet via a dsl line.  I tried
re-installing it but it still doesn't work.

Any help will be appreciated.

IE has a repair option which you might like to try to see if it clears the
problem.
Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information. On the
window that opens, click Tools on the tool bar. Select "Repair Internet
Explorer" from the drop down menu. When that opens there will be two
options. One is to repair and the other is to add new components. Select
repair and follow the prompts. When the PC restarts it makes IE the default
browser, so if you need AOL to be the default, open its settings option in
the tool bar  and change it.
