Can someone tell me how I can download ie5.5 on windows 98

I fail to see why you would want this, when IE6 is more secure but try
here:

Thanks for the info Alan. The program requirement is only 5.5. Do you
recommend 6 if so how do i do it.

Yes, IE 6 SP1 is the latest and most secure version that will run on Win9x.

It's also the last version that will run on Win9x, so if you plan on keeping
your Win9x machine for some time to come, you should save the Setup Files to
a CD as follows:

1. Go to the page listed above (it's a Microsoft.com page, I just used a
TinyURL to make sure the link doesn't wrap in your newsreader.) Click on
Download button, then when prompted, click Open.

2. Choose "Install Minimal, or Customize your browser" install option. On
the next page, click the Advanced button, then choose "Download Only", then
click Next.

3. Choose the OS versions you wish to save, probably only Win98 (works for
Win98 and Win98SE), but perhaps for other versions of Windows as well.
Change the download location if you wish.

4. Once the download has finished, copy the entire contents of the download
folder to a CD or two (can't have enough backups).

5. Finally, to install IE 6 SP1 to your own system, from the download
folder, run IE6SETUP.EXE. On future installations, it's usually best to copy
the files back to your hard drive before installing, rather than installing
directly from the CD (this is true with most programs.)
