Try this. Go to Start>Run box and type in WINIPCFG, then press <Enter>. Make
sure your network adapter is showing in the drop-down (not PPP adapter, for
instance.) Click "Release" or "Release All", then "Renew" or "Renew All".
Does that get you onto the internet?

How is your system set up? There is a cable that comes in through the wall
and attaches to a modem. (Please look and tell us what make/model the modem
is.) Is there a cable from there to your machine, or does it go through
another device? Is your connection wireless or hard wired (is there a thick
cable attached to your machine coming from the cable modem or other device,
or is that part wireless?)
