Sure it can. It might help, though, if you explained what you intend to do
with the two modems?

Trying to set up pcAnywhere 11.0. Present modem (Device Manager) shows this:
Modem
Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem
Parallel cable on Lpt1
Serial cable on COM1
Serialcable on COM2
On 98 as HOST
Remote is laptop with XP home
Host does not answer or answers long enough to callback remote but no desk
top pops up. Symantec suggests new drivers. Cannot find them for this modem.
'Thought new modem might work.
Ideas?

You should be able to add a second modem to your current configuration and
then tell PCAnywhere to use it instead of the first modem.

I guess this is another example of what my pappy useto say when he caught
fish and I didn't. I am just not holding my mouth right. We are in
agreement that it should work. Based on my last reply, can you tell me how
this is to be accomplished? Remember, dumber than dirt, here!
Please advise, Mack

Install the modem.
Install the drivers.
Start up PCAnywhere.
Open your remote connection.
Where it says it's using the Agere modem, change that selection to use the
new modem instead.

I think I am on the wrong wavelength. I not that I have installed the secound
modem and that it has taken the place of the orignal. Which puts me in the
same comfiguration I was in to begin with but with a different modem but not
2 modems.
After which, you suggest I should install the secound modem.
I am confused.

There is an adapter on the LPT port that restricts the printing of a receipt
without inputing data into the accounting program first.
On Serial Port 1 there is a cable that goes to a controler which operates
the security gate and keeps tabs on the codes that are entered.
So I gues the question I should have asked was :
How do I install a secound modem on WIN 98 with out it replacing the first
modem?
Thanks

Buy a different internal modem and install it inside the computer. Most
modern modems will use a virtual COM port and leave COM1 and COM2 available
for use.

Will try. Thanks
How do I prevent the new modem from taking over the old modems location on
Device Manager?

It won't. Two modems will mean two entries in Device Manager, one for each
modem.

REF. 2/22
This was before "GOD". ('Had to be. Did not take him this long to do
everything.)
Original Setup
Modem
Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem
Parallel cable on Lpt1
Serial cable on COM1
Serialcable on COM2
Installed external and "presto chango"
Modem
"Sound Blaster External Modem"
Parallel cable on Lpt1
Serial cable on COM1
Serialcable on COM2
I did not remove old modem.
If I remove "Blaster" Old modem should still be there. Right?
When I install "New Internal" modem, this would count as a secound "entree".
Right?
Or am I lost in cyberspace again?

Have you actually tried installing the second modem? The questions you're
asking would be answered instantly by doing so.

Sorry' 'A little gun shy. (The time reference was to me not anyone else) From
my point of view, I must have screwed up the external modem instalation which
caused it not to show up as a seperate item. To me, if I install the internal
the same way I will end up with the same results, however if you do not think
I need to change my approach and I should not change anything in device
manager or anywhere else, I will do it tonight.
Thanks,
dh

Installing a second internal modem should leave the first internal modem
alone, but I can't guarantee that of course.

So I need to remove the external modem? Anything else? Your not working with
Americia's "Brain Trust" here. Don't assume that I know more than I do.

If you no longer want the external modem, remove it. If you don't, then
don't.

Welcome aboard the "pcAnywhere Titanic"
It would be of GREAT importance to me if it was located on some other
computer.
NTBH (Not Too Bright Here) So you have to be more basic for me.
Location? In computer? In device manager? External?

Yes, but only if they are not identical soft or controllerless modems.
