(1) Adding "ATW2L0" to Extra Settings will not always force your modem
to report the connect speed instead of the DTE speed. For example,
"W2" does not work with USR modems. The main reason that the DTE speed
is reported by some setups is that the INF file is incomplete. For
example, a modem may report "CONNECT 44000" but the INF file may not
have this particular string. In this case DUN is unable to parse the
response and instead reverts to reporting the DTE rate.

See http://www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-inf1.asp

BTW, "L0" mutes the modem's speaker.

(2) Disabling compression *reduces* performance, unless your modem's
firmware is broken.

To display the modem's throughput in real time under Windows, use the
built-in System Monitor or Performance Monitor (but don't bother with
Net Medic):

This page has good troubleshooting info:

Your modem's last call diagnostic report can tell you a great deal
about your last dialup session:

I agree with Franc's comments.  In addition, multi-link PPP with 2
modems and phone lines will only work if the ISP supports/allows it.
Very few, if any, do, and those that do often charge extra for it.

Just another mish-mash of stolen stuff, and bad stuff at that, sucking for
advertising dollars. At least three of us have increased the hit count,
