Ok, I have a pretty vague question here that hopefully someone can help me
with. My friend has a computer running windows 98 (first edition I believe)
anytime they connect to the internet and then disconnect, the modem "keeps
ahold of the phone line" so that if you were to pick up the phone there is
just nothing like the phone's disconnected, and can't receive any incoming
calls either. If the modem's line is disconnected from the phone jack the
phone line works fine. I use windows xp and used to have this problem but it
mysteriously went away. Anyone have a generic solution or one that can be
given with the info I have to give?
TIA

This is usually caused by a faulty modem or a good modem with the wrong
drivers installed.
