I installed a U.S. Robitics 56K Winmodem. and installed
it. It comes up under Com3. When I go to the Control Panel
and Modem Properties, then click Diagnostics and More
Info, it says "Couldn't Open Port" I have tried different
PCI slots, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the modem
and the COM ports, 1,2, and 4.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Josh

>Every time this has happened to me, it was because I
installed the modem wrong i.e. not physical installation,
but fiddling with init strings,  hyperterminal etc. Sorry
that is not much help, except to say that you are unlikely
to either have to try new slot, or new COM port. Persevere
with it on COM3. Have a look at www.modemsite.com
