My Aztech modem is detected by win98 everytime on startup.
Initially it appears in device manager under modems, then
every detection on startup appears under "other devices".
Any clues???

Sounds as if the drivers weren't installed correctly.  Boot into Safe Mode
(hold down the Ctrl key before Windows starts up, or repeatedly tap the F8
key before Windows starts up) and remove the modem from Device Manager, as
well as any unknown or problem (yellow question mark, yellow exclamation
point or red "X") devices.  Restart the system normally and Windows will
find and install the modems - hopefully once only.

I had a similar problem recently (with a usr 56k faxmodem ext)

That was a bum driver. I downloaded the latest one from the usr site
and the problem was resolved. I think I got the bad driver from
driverguide.com so be careful if you download a driver from there.
They're not checked over.

Jim.
