virtual memory incorrect

in win 98se/system properties..virtual memory shows as
minus 486mb...it should read 63gigs free as it does in my
computer/c drive.
i think i read years ago that this was a known issue..but
i couldnt find it on a new search.

it was reading ok till recently but i uninstalled lots of
stuff,and then set my own swap file of 800mb..

does anyone know if theres a fix or explanation for this?
