no sound from microphone

when going to volume control ..audio properties..there is
no playback  to put a check mark???

Double click the speaker in the tray area.  In the toolbar of the
resulting window, select options and properties.  In the next window,
mark the Recording button, mark the microphone box in the window and OK.
On the next screen, make sure the select box is marked under microphone.
