I've been searching for a solution for the following for about a year, hope somebody has an answer!

When clicking an MP3 link in IE 5.5, how do I get a dialog to pop-up and prompt me to 'open it' or 'download'? Currently an MP3
always wants to play *IN* Internet Explorer.

I know the MP3 does not have to play in IE because in Win95 on my dual boot system the pop-up appears prompting for an action!

PLEASE, anybody???
(I think it's a registry entry causing this action but cannot figure out which)

Thnx,
Vic

Click Start> Settings> Folder Options> File Types tab.
Scroll the list of registered file types and select the MP3 Format file type.
Click the 'Edit' button.
Put a check-mark in the box for "Confirm open after download".
Click OK all the way out.

To just download an MP3 file to a folder on your hard disk, right-click the link to the file on the web page, and click "Save Target As.." on the menu that appears.

Glen,

Did as you said,
> Put a check-mark in the box for "Confirm open after download". Click OK all the way out.

But it did not appear to do anything!

Then you said,
> To just download an MP3 file to a folder on your hard disk, right-click the link to the file on the web page, and click "Save Target As.." on the menu that appears.

Great advice ... this web page has right click blocking however! AND all the web links to MP3's are encoded in a Java script so I
know of no way to know the link.

There HAS to be a way to STOP MP3's from being player *IN* IE. I'm open to any other possibilities!

Thanks,
Vic

Click Start> Settings> Folder Options> File Types tab.
Scroll the list of registered file types and select the MP3 Format file type.
Click the 'Edit' button.
Put a check-mark in the box for "Confirm open after download".
Click OK all the way out.

To just download an MP3 file to a folder on your hard disk, right-click the link to the file on the web page, and click "Save Target
As.." on the menu that appears.

Dunno if this works in 5.5 (it does in 6) :

In IE, click View > Explorer Bar > Media. When the Media sidebar opens,
click Media Options > Settings and take the tick out of "Play Web Media In
The Bar".

Hi Nigel,

Tried the suggestion but IE 5.5 does not have the 'Media' option! Thanks for trying!
