problems with jpgs and such

recently my computer got nearly destroyed.since then i had
to reinstall all my programs.one of the programs i
reinstalled was ulead photoimpact 6,and since then any
jpg,bmp,etc. i download only opens up in photoimpact,and
in my documents folder those images are read as ulead
photoimapct image.my question is,how do i change this so
that i can open images in a regular window.i tried
removing the program,reinstalling the program and nothing
seems to work.any and all suggestions will be greatly
appreciated.

by "regular window",i mean a microsoft window.i don't want
to have to open up the photoimpact program every single
time just to look at images.

It seems to me that it is easier to open a graphics program then it is
to open Internet Explorer to see a picture.  If PhotoImpact is too hard
to use, you could install this freebie program:  Irfanview:  A very good
freeware graphics viewer:  http://www.irfanview.com/

If you want to use IE, left click once a graphic file, shift and right
click, select open with, mark the always box and select IE.  You will
have to repeat this for each photo file type that you use.
