i can't hear midi files

i just got a dell laptatude with windows 98 and when i
tried to play a midi file it tells me the audio hardware
is not installed or not working. but i know i have some
audio hardware instaled becuse i can hear wav files. i
think it might be that i don't have a midi codec installed
if so can you tell me where i can get one. i don't have
the internet on my computer yet so i have to put it on
disk.

Select a different MIDI synthesiser from Multimedia Audio
Properties.  Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth is guaranteed
to produce audio from your MIDI files if your drivers are
installed correctly and if you have DX6.1 or greater
installed.  Contact me if you have any more trouble:
