Usually this is one of two things:
- you're trying to play an incomplete or damaged file
- the computer doesn't have the right codecs or filters installed to
playback the file
Can't help you much if the file is damaged. I'll suggest you try some of the
programs that claim to fix such files.
If it's a "codec lacking" problem then you need to identify in which formats
were the files encoded and install the codecs necessary for "decoding" the
files for playback. A good program to help you identify encoding type is
Avicodec found at http://avicodec.duby.info/

I have Win 98, with Windows Media Player 7, and got this error while playing
MP3 files. Read some of your posts about reinstalling. Can't find installer
in Win Explorer. Do I need to download Win7 again?
