Have re-installed windows and found no volume icon on system tray. Have been
into multi-media via control panel and msconfig through run and all is
correct, yet I have no icon and no sound.
Would appreciate assistance

When you were in Multimedia, did you ensure the box for displaying the
volume control was ticked?  Control panel, system, device manager--anything
showing up for your sound card?  It may be that you need to find the audio
driver and install it.

Thank you Ron
I have since solved the problem. Yes, it was ticked, however I reinstalled
audio driver from CD.  In multimedia for playback and recording both boxes
had any device, instead of the device of that on the motherboard.  Once I had
entered that into boxes and applied, hey presto! volume control icon
reappeared.
Thank you once again for your prompt reply
