Alright, I'm not very good with this networking thing so I hope someone can
help me out.  I had a Win98SE computer with a Verizon Westell 2200 dsl box
and mircosoft wireless G router hardwired (I believe) to it.  I had
purchased a computer with Win XP and a Linksys wireless G adapter so I could
hook up to the internet on that computer via the router.  Everything was
going fine until I had to disconnect the Win98se computer for reasons i
don't need to get into here.  I then hooked up the dsl box and the wireless
router to my WinXP so my children could still play their x-box live as the
Win98se was just sitting in my room not hooked up.  I went to hook it up
today but I saw that my wireless G adapter is only compatible with Winxp or
2000.  I have a wireless B adapter which I thought I could hook up so I can
access the internet but when I try to hook up the new hardware, it tells me
that I don't have the drivers for this particular piece of hardware.  It
came with a CD and I thought the drivers are suppose to install from the CD
but nothing happens when I put it in the CD-rom.  My question is:  Can I use
a Wireless B adapter with the microsoft wireless 802.11g router?  If so, how
do I get the drivers it needs to set it up?
I hope someone understands all this and can help me out.  Thanx  Patty

Yes, a B adapter should work with the G router unless you disabled the mixed
mode that allows both types of devices to connect.  Check your router's
instruction manual.

If you check the instructions that came with the wireless adapter you will
likely find that you need to install the drivers BEFORE connecting the
adapter.

OK.  I finally got the adapter to install but I still can't get connected to
the internet.  The signal is good but I can't get it to hook up.  I just
went into the management tool in the Broadband network utility and wrote
down all the numbers and names that should appear when I open the network
adapter.  I also enabled WEP encryption so I hope this works now.  I believe
I set it to Ad-hoc Channel 6 with WEP encryption.  That's is what it told me
in the base station management tool.  Hope this works!!  If not, I will be
back.  Thanx  Patty

Excellent news!  Hopefully you don't have to go through that again.
