We have DSL that we share over our peer-to-peer network (Win98 and 1 WinXP
Pro). The physical setup is (Setup A):
DSL goes into the Router
From the Router a cable goes to NIC#1 in a computer
That same computer has a cable on NIC #2 that goes to Switch
All the other computers on the network also plug into that Switch
Everything works
My boss has been reading and says the setup should be (Setup B)
DSL goes into the Router
From the Router the cable should go to the Switch
ALL computers plug into the Switch to access the LAN and share the DSL
The second NIC on the one computer would not be used
My question.. will I (or the ISP tech) have to reconfigure the Switch or DSL
Router for this to work? We're using DHCP currently. Will that work in
Setup B?
Thanks in advance for any help

Setup B will work fine. Connect the router to the uplink port on the
switch. There's no reconfiguration needed for the router, and there's
no configuration possible for the switch.
Disable Internet Connection Sharing on the 2-NIC computer. The router
will handle the Internet sharing and DHCP for all of the computers.
The switch might not even be necessary. If the router has enough LAN
ports for all of the computers, remove the switch and connect all of
the computers to the router.
