Either:
1) Install the printer on an XP machine,
and then share it,
and have the 98 machines connect via the share on the XP box;
-or-
2) Download and install the...
'HP Install Network Printer Wizard':
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc-JAVA/offweb/vac/us/en/sm/network_software/install
_overview.html
on the 98 boxes.
This adds TCP/IP printing support on the 98 machines.

Tnaks much folks...it all worked! My Win 98 systems are now connected via IP
to the network 8150N printer. I appreciate your guidance.

I am having the same problem in that I am trying to set up a print
server for 2 XP boxes and 1 Win 98. As Alex mentioned, the 98 boxes
can't print to an IP address natively. I checked the HP page that Ron
Lowe suggested, and I notice that the download seems to say that it will
only work for HP Jet direct servers. I did download it and will try it
tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone knows offhand that it will
not work with a Linksys print server.
Thanks

No it will not work. You need to go to the Linksys page and download their
98 print server drivers.

A good thought, but my visit to the Linksys site doesn't show any
software available for this purpose.

Thank you, your post sparked my brain to the solution. When I realized
you were referring to the regular driver, I installed it on the Win98
machine and it configured the port and I can now print successfully.
Since the 2nd XP box didn't need a driver, just a port configuration, I
thought that's all Win98 needed also.
The print server is the WPS54GU2, and I had the driver already.
Thanks for your help.

Steve Winograd told me to make sure the share names were less than 12
characters. I tried this and it worked.

I'm glad that it worked for you. Actually, I said to make sure that
the share names aren't longer than 12 characters. 12 is OK. Longer
than 12 isn't OK.
